What is an Animal Health Certificate (AHC)?

An Animal Health Certificate (AHC) is a document needed for pets, travel from the UK to the EU, Switzerland, or Norway. This certificate, issued by an Official Veterinarian (OV) within 10 days before your departure, ensures that your dog, cat, or ferret meets the necessary health and identification requirements for travel.

The AHC includes vital information about your pet’s microchip, rabies vaccination, and overall health status. It replaced the GB-issued pet passports following Brexit in January 2021, standardizing the travel requirements for pets within these regions.

If you are planning on travelling outside the EU, then you would need Export Health Certificate (EHC).

Rabies vaccine details*(date of vaccination,vaccine brand,batch number)
Tapeworm treatment details (if needed)

Your AHC will be valid for entering the EU for 10 days from the date it is issued. It will then last four months for any onward travel to other EU countries and for your return to GB.

*Certified documents that show your pet has a valid, in-date Rabies Vaccine (given minimum 21 days before the appointment) with written confirmation that your pet’s Microchip was scanned and verified by a veterinary surgeon at the time the Rabies Vaccine was administered.
